Home 9 Latest from the museum 9 Diary from the construction sites. MUCIV undergoes a transformation

The MUCIV-Museum of Civilisation in Rome is a concrete example of good practice and innovative vision regarding the mission and function of a public museum. Despite having launched numerous construction projects since 2022, the MUCIV has not closed a single day and is sharing each project with its public as much as possible. While it is essential to remove architectural barriers, install new fire prevention, earthquake protection, air conditioning and surveillance systems, and update the museum’s displays, it is also necessary to find ways for the museum to continue to be an active service that is always available to the community.

Starting this week, MUCIV is involving visitors in a new way of interacting with its transformations, a “diary” that will provide constant virtual updates on the construction sites in progress through an audiovisual project curated by Margherita Villani, which will use the newsletter as a reading tool and social media channels as a listening tool.

The first instalment is dedicated to the Great Cultural Heritage Project, a historic and institutional construction site on the ground floor of the Palazzo delle Scienze, which will lead, by 2026, to the opening of new rooms and a fully accessible route dedicated solely to the Asian Arts and Cultures Collections and those relating to the former Colonial Museum of Rome.
