Library of Oriental Art
The Library of Oriental Art opened in 1958, simultaneously with the new National Museum of Oriental Art, founded at the instigation of Giuseppe Tucci. The collection currently consists of about 20,000 books, monographs, periodicals and maps largely focused on the art and archaeology of Asian regions, with supplementary holdings on the most varied aspects of Eastern civilizations and their relations with other cultures, as well as the history of Orientalist studies. The holdings are incremented continuously by exchange and donation.
The library is currently undergoing reorganization, and for the moment only monographs on the art and archaeology of Asia are available for consultation, in the Library of Prehistory and Ethnography. For information and access to the reference room of the Library of Prehistory and Ethnography, located at 14 Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, please contact the library staff at mu-civ.biblioteca@cultura.gov.it.
