The Card is strictly personal and non-transferable. To gain access to the Museum, the holder must show the Card bearing his or her name at the Ticket Office along with a valid ID. The subscription is made by filling out the form provided authorizing The Museum of Civilizations to process their data for the purposes described.
In addition to unlimited admissions for a calendar year, on days of Museum opening, membership also allows participation in special organized activities, such as exhibition openings, book presentations, guided tours reserved for members, etc. Card-holders will be inserted in a reserved mailing list and will be able to obtain reduced rates at educational courses organized by the Museum.
Activities not managed by the Museum and not included in regular ticketing or programming are not included in this membership plan. The Museum may, however, provide a concessionary rate for pass-holders.
Reductions and free admission
2.00 € Reduced entry for citizens between 18 and 25 years of age
Free Admission (valid only for the day of issue) for the categories of user below upon presentation of appropriate document:
- minors
- ISPRA Institute for Environmental Protection and Research personnel.
- European Union citizens and nationals under 18 years of age;
- persons with disabilities and a family member or other accompanying person who demonstrates membership in social and health care services;
- citizens and nationals of non-EU countries under a “condition of reciprocity” (children under the age of 12 must be accompanied);
- European Union interpreters for tourists whenever the guide requires such assistance upon presentation of valid license issued by the competent authority;
- Ministry of Culture personnel;
- I.C.O.M. (International Council of Museums) members;
- groups of students of public and private schools of the European Union accompanied by their teachers upon prior reservation and within the number set by the head of the institution;
- students(s) of the higher education courses of the Ministry’s Schools (Central Institute for Restoration, Gemstone Processing School, School for Mosaic Restoration);
- teachers and students attending fine arts academies or corresponding institutions of the European Union who show their certificate of enrollment for the current academic year;
- teachers, students attending bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degree courses and postgraduate students at the following faculties: architecture, cultural heritage conservation, education science, literature, or philosophy with an archaeological or historical-artistic focus. The same concessions are made to the faculty and students of corresponding faculties or courses established in the states of the European Union. Free admission is granted to students who show their certificate of enrollment for the current academic year, and to faculty members presenting the appropriate document.
- art history teachers of high school institutions who show the appropriate document;
- journalists in good standing with the payment of membership fee who show the appropriate document demonstrating professional qualification;
- for reasons of study or research certified by school or university institutions, academies, Italian or foreign research and cultural institutes, Ministry agencies or for special and justified needs, museum directors may allow free admission to the exhibition venues under their jurisdiction for specified periods upon request;
- licensed European Union tourist guides.
Teaching staff [1] on tenure or term contract in Italian schools are granted free admission to national museums, archaeological areas and parks and monumental complexes. The Ministry of Culture complies in regard to access to spaces where temporary exhibitions or displays are set up with itineraries separate from ordinary tour routes. As a result, those entitled will be able to access such spaces for a fee using vouchers generated through computer applications (cartadeldocente.istruzione.it) as of November 30, 2016.
Previously suspended by COVID-19 restrictions, the scheduled Sunday free admission days have been reinstated since April 1, 2022.
A [1] “To tenured school teachers and those on fixed-term contracts on presentation of appropriate certification issued by educational institutions at no new or greater expense to public finance on the form prepared by MIUR.” This reduction is granted for Italian teachers only; a certification form issued by MIUR must be necessarily presented.
Visitors under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Access to Museum locations
Access to Museum locations is allowed up to one half hour before closing time.
Entrance tickets to different locations must be presented upon request by Security staff.
Access for people with limited mobility is provided by elevators located near the Ticket Office.
Access by children less than 12 years unaccompanied by parents or other adults is not permitted.
Access by visitors with pets in the afternoon time slot (14:00-19:00) in respect of Museum rules and other visitors as per Article 2052 of the Civil Code, Presidential Decree 320/1954 and Articles 659 and 672 of the Criminal Code is permitted.
Pets must be kept on leashes and muzzled at all times, except for small dogs, which may be held in the arms or purse. Owners or keepers are civilly and criminally liable for their pet’s behavior, which includes ensuring that it is free of vermin, does not soil, and does not create nuisance or damage. Pet owners are required to pay reduced entry ticket, with the exception of guide dogs for the blind, service dogs for assistance to people with disabilities, and small pets held in the arms or bag. No more than 4 pets per branch at the same time are permitted.
For security reasons, access with face covered is prohibited as per Article 5 of Law 152/1975.
Under any circumstances that may compromise the safety of persons or property, such as overly large crowds, for example, access may be temporarily banned or any measures necessary may be taken in regard.
Access by groups
Tours by school and other groups must be booked in advance through the Secretary’s Office of the concessionaire for educational services using the number provided in the website and on Museum information boards.
Barring discounts by the Museum and the concessionaire, the reservation fee to the concessionaire is €10.00 per group.
Groups may consist of a minimum 10 to a maximum 25 people.
The Museum offers groups their own entrance at the Ticket Office. Groups booked are welcomed by the concessionaire who received the reservation, who also provides the group with any operational instructions the visit requires.
Given the resources available and the tour’s duration of around 1:30 hours, no more than 4 groups per floor (3 groups in the Low Middle Ages Collections) and 1 group for each area dedicated to temporary exhibitions are envisioned at the same time.
Whenever tours of longer duration or in more exhibition areas are planned, such intention must be stated by the group leader when booking.
At booking, each group must provide the name of a group leader who will be Manager for the completion of all paperwork at the Ticket Office. For groups with minors, a list with the names of the minors and the respective chaperones must also be presented.
Guides and teacher(s) must register at the Ticket Office and collect their Accreditation/Badges that are non-transferable and must be clearly visible at all times during the tour.
For school groups, the accompanying teacher is considered the group Manager also in regard to the behavior of the students entrusted. This Manager is responsible for ensuring that students behave properly and obey all Museum rules.
Visitors accompanied by guides must remain in the group, follow the guide, and behave properly in respect of the rules above.
Reception/Supervisory services
Museum’s reception staff is available to offer visitors general information on the Museum’s itineraries, collections, and everything else it has to offer.
Supervisory staff-members managers the integrity of the works and the smooth flow of visitors.
For such reason, the instruction and restrictions they provide must be followed with attention.
In the execution of their duties, Supervisory staff members assume the status of public officials.
Guided tours
Educational activities at the Museum may be carried out only by authorized individuals in possession of one of the following accreditation titles:
- teacher as a guide of the class of he/she is accompanying;
- educational operator of the concessionaire of the educational services par for pursuant to Article 115 Paragraph 3 and Article 117 Paragraph 2e) of the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape (Legislative Decree 42/2004);
The exercise of the profession of tour guide at museum venues is guaranteed exclusively to guides licensed according to current regulations. It should be noted that according to Art. 11 Paragraph 2 of the framework law on tourism (l. 217/1983): “a tourist guide is anyone who, by profession, accompanies individuals or groups of people on visits to works of art, museums, galleries, and archaeological excavations, illustrating historical, artistic, monumental, landscape, and natural attractions.” As also reiterated by Article 6 of Legislative Decree 79/2011 (Tourism Code), the tour guide contributes to the visitor’s ideal enjoyment of the trip and vacation also in terms of knowledge of the places visited, even without conducting the teaching or educational activities for which an exclusive concession applies or an explicit and formal agreement with the Museum Management must be obtained prior to verification of the educational project and the quality of the operators.
Explanations must be given in an appropriate tone of voice without using amplification that may disturb or distract other visitors. The use of laser pointers during explanations to indicate works or details is prohibited.
Teachers may make use of the information and programs available on the Museum’s website in organizing group tours to the school programs and the educational level of the students most effectively.
Supervisory staff has the authority to request unauthorized individuals to interrupt the explanations and to solicit the intervention of the competent authorities whenever necessary.
Emergencies
Whenever the alarm sound is heard and/or in all emergency situations, visitors must follow the signs and the instructions given by Museum staff. Whenever evacuation is required, visitors must proceed in orderly manner as instructed.
Bulky bags and other articles
Cumbersome bags, backpacks, umbrellas and other objects that security staff decide cannot be brought along exhibition routes must be left in the spaces provided for the purpose on Museum premises. Storage is free of charge without specific supervisory responsibility.<
Prohibitions and requirements
- Bringing knives and/or metal tools, firearm and/or dangerous material inside the Museum is forbidden. Unless authorized by the Museum Director, even armed visitors with regular gun permits are barred from entry.
- Touching the display and works on display is prohibited unless explicitly consented on “please touch” exhibits.
- Smoking and the use of electronic cigarettes is prohibited.
- For reasons of the hygiene and safety of Museum works and areas, foods and drinks must be consumed only where expressly indicated.
- No alcoholic beverages of any kind may be brought onto Museum premises.
- Papers, cans, bottles or other waste may never be abandoned and must always be placed in the appropriate containers outside the display areas.
- Visitors must always be on good behavior and never do anything that might cause damage to the exhibits or disturb other visitors, such as running through the halls, talking loudly, or keeping the volume of cell phones and other mobile devices at high levels.
Whenever inappropriate behavior is observed, supervisory staff may ask visitors for individual or collective identification for the purpose of protecting the integrity of Museum property and public order. Whenever such inappropriate behavior persists, staff may order those responsible to leave the premises, with all rights reserved to taking any further, even legal actions necessary.
Photos and videos
Photos and videos without flash and without tripod can be taken during visits to the Museum solely for individual use and non-commercial purposes.
Digital images and rights to professional photo, film and television shoots can be obtained upon specific request subject to payment of rights. See the Museum website for more detail.

Visitors may submit reports and any complaints by using the form included in the Citizens Service Quality Card by sending an email to mu-civ@cultura.gov.it or by regular letter to: The Museum of Civilizations, Piazza G. Marconi 14 – 00144 Rome.

Liability
The Museum declines all liability for damage to persons or property caused by the failure of anyone to comply with these regulations or to behave without ordinary care or caution.
